Traditional cotton yoga mat

CHF 118.00

The India model corresponds to the traditional yoga and meditation mat. Indian craftsmanshipIt is hand-woven by the women of a cooperative in Kerala in the traditional cotton fashion, under respectful social and working conditions.

The cotton fibres are dyed with vegetable pigments according to Ayurvedic tradition.:

    • Blue and White = indigo and aloe vera
    • Grey and Yellow = Holy basil and turmeric

A thin coating of natural rubber ensures that it stays firmly in place on the floor (bottom layer). It will stay in place whatever your movements, including the jumping transitions between 2 postures in the ashtanga sequence.

Extremely lightweight, it's ideal for taking to the studio and travelling, and comes in a range of colours.

Description

A beautiful traditional rug, appreciated for its artisanal origin (hand-woven by the women of a cooperative in Kerala, southern India), its natural 100% organic cotton fabric and its minimalist aesthetic.

The underside of this cotton carpet is coated with rubber tree sap to ensure it sticks to the floor.

This mat has no other grip than the relief of the weave, so it requires a conscious physical commitment and is suitable for advanced yogis. On the other hand, it is suitable for all types of gentle practice, such as Restorative Yoga or Meditation.

Kundal - Conscious yoga and wellness clothing and accessories for everyone

A Kundalini yoga practitioner, Maia has created her own brand to offer items produced in India by craftspeople she knows personally and with whom she works on a long-term basis. She favours craftsmanship, organic cotton and natural vegetable dyes.

For the carpets, Maia works with a cooperative of Kerala women whose aim is to "survive in the jungle of the textile industry".

As with all yoga mats, after use it is important to store the India mat in a dry place away from direct sunlight, for example in a mat bag.

If necessary, spray the India mat with a special dye-free yoga mat spray in reasonable quantities.

If your India rug was particularly dirty, we recommend washing it by hand by soaking it in cold water and adding a little very mild detergent for just 5 minutes. Then rinse it well in cold water and squeeze gently to remove the water. You can machine wash it occasionally, but be careful as the natural colour pigments may bleed.

Then leave it to dry completely, laid flat, out of direct sunlight.

We love its simplicity, its authenticity and its beauty. The colours are each more beautiful than the last, and the colour contrasts are all just right!

And if you choose to leave it on the floor between 2 practices, it contributes brilliantly to a beautiful atmosphere in your living room or bedroom.
